And it is official!  The Senate just passed a bill establishing Juneteenth as a National Holiday!!

In celebration of Juneteenth, 2021, I am creating my first blog post for See Beyond My Skin.

Juneteenth
Liberation Day
Freedom Day
Emancipation Day
Jubilee Day
June 19th, 1865

It has many names and one meaning: freedom from slavery for Black people in America. The same red, white, and blue colors that stand for the United States of America are standing for the emancipation of Black people and the Juneteenth flag.
Black people as equal Americans.
The same rights for Black people.
Not quite.

The era of Jim Crow laws and segregation made sure that we are not equal for the next hundred plus years. But still, Juneteenth is a reminder that there can be an ending to bad things. It is a huge step to celebrate.

Honor Black businesses by supporting them.
Use this time to do service, not just for today but every day.
Serve the Black community.
Support the Black community.
Lift up the Black community.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
