My Name is Nigel.

I have dyslexia, dysgraphia, and ADD which sometimes makes it challenging to fit in. Despite my challenges, I know I have a lot to offer and I plan to accomplish things that will make the world a better place.

I’m adopted from Ethiopia and, although I love my family, growing up Black in an all-White household has been tough sometimes.

I started See Beyond My Skin in 2020 when I was 12 years old. I attended a youth activism camp called YEA Camp, and what I learned there inspired me to start my own nonprofit. I talked with my former teacher, Husein Noorani, who encouraged me to pursue my plan.  I am now in high school at The Science Leadership Academy (SLA) in Philadelphia.

I am proud that I won a 2023 Civic Spring Fellowship to support my nonprofit work. I also have my own radio show on G-Town Radio called Big Questions with Nigel Ousey.

My nonprofit fights racism through community action. We need to take a stand against discriminatory policing and systemic racism so America is safe for everyone.

Big Questions with Nigel Ousey

Big Questions, on G-Town Radio, is my newest endeavor. The show airs every 1st Thursday at 6pm on 92.9 MFM.  The current theme for the show is community. Each week, I and my cohosts/guests ask big questions and boldly talk about the big issues facing our world today. Race, community, politics, climate, and more  – are all under the microscope in this brave new show.

Tune in on the 1st Thursday at 6pm on 92.9 MFM

Do you have a story to share?
